Tiverton Castle was originally built by Richard de Redvers in 1106 on orders of Henry I. It is an atmospheric castle with fascinating history of 900 years. Home of medieval Earls of Devon and of Princess Katherine Plantagenet. Besieged during the Civil War it fell to Fairfax due to lucky shot hitting drawbridge chain.
When visiting the castle you can absorb the fascinating background history of the families who lived there, and see the developments of the buildings. It is great fun for children. Learn about the ghosts at the castle and secret passages, see the medieval lavatory, try on some Civil War armour, and stroll round the beautiful gardens.
